Women face several challenges on their road to gender equality. In developing countries, when women have employment, it is often as part-time and temporary workers. As a result, these women are less likely to have access to basic health care services, education, financial credit, resources, and land ownership and they are less likely to be aware of their rights.
Women’s ability to influence, to act for change and to create a more economic, social, just and sustainable world is unlimited once they are confident, know their rights, and have opportunities to access resources and to own their land. When women are empowered they are able to control every part of their lives.
In this newsletter, you’ll read stories of women from Fiji, Timor-Leste and the Solomon Islands who are working to change and to improve the situation within their communities. We outline how we are helping our partners to support women in starting business, building their skills and developing a better livelihood security, especially in rural and vulnerable areas.
These articles highlight women’s ability to be activists for social change and the positive effect this can have on their families and communities. We enjoy being able to share something of this with you. To read the Autumn 2010 newsletter please download the pdf.
This year, IWDA is celebrating a very significant anniversary, our 25th birthday. On behalf of women from Asia and the Pacific, thank you for supporting us. Without supporters like you, it’s not possible for us to work to empower women. Your support and engagement is crucial for us.
The projects we write about in our newsletters change lives, and we enjoy being able to share something of this with you. To read the Spring 2009 newsletter please download the pdf.
