There is still time to click and support IWDA to realise visions for future generations of women

This year is a landmark for women around the world as it marks 50 years of the contraceptive pill. Earlier this year, IWDA chose to celebrate this milestone through our involvement in the ‘Dreams for our Daughters’ initiative.

‘Dreams for our Daughters’ encourages Australian and New Zealand women to celebrate the launch of the Pill by voting on a vision for women over the next 50 years. For every vote cast, $1 will go to the organisation that is striving to make that dream a reality. IWDA is one of four organisations associated with the initiative and supports this “Dream”: the right for every woman to make positive and informed sexual and reproductive health decisions, including the right to access safe and affordable contraception.

Thank you to those who have already shown your support, and for those yet to cast their vote and raise funds for IWDA…there’s still time!

Within a program that takes a holistic approach to addressing gender inequality, and which also encompasses areas such as economic empowerment, freedom from violence, political participation and environmental sustainability, IWDA pursues opportunities to promote access to appropriate and empowering health education and services for women and girls and supports programs that build local capacity to advocate for and provide such services.

IWDA’s programs include a partnership with the Burnet Institute, Cairns Sexual Health Centre, East New Britain Provincial Health and the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre aiming to reduce the rate of HIV prevalence in East New Britain Province in Papua New Guinea by providing integrated sexual health services and reaching out to women and men to break down barriers to seeking information and treatment.

To get involved, simply log on to the Facebook site at www.facebook.com/50yearsofthepill and cast your vote. While you’re there, why not become a Facebook fan IWDA?

‘Dreams for our Daughters’ is presented by Sexual Health and Family Planning Australia (SH&FPA), Australia’s peak sexual health organisation and sponsored by Bayer Schering Pharma, the company which first launched the Pill in Australia.
