Cambodia bans sending domestic workers to Malaysia #egender

ABC Radio Australia has reported that Cambodia has imposed a temporary ban on sending domestic workers to Malaysia.

The ban was signed by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, following numerous complaints of abuse committed against the workers, who are mostly women, sent there. The complaints range from women and girls being overworked and given very little to eat, to being beaten and sexually abused.

To listen to the full report, please visit the ABC Radio Australia website.

This ban is undoubtedly a positive step towards improving the conditions of migrant Cambodian domestic workers, however it is only a temporary measure and will not necessarily protect the rights of these (mostly women) workers in the future. KS.
