There are different types of security: there is human security, food security, national security, but it all links back to individuals and human beings. For me personally, I think security is feeling safe, secure from internal and external threats and living without fear …

Security means different things to different people and these are some of the voices of women and girls in Suva, Fiji, featured in IWDA partner, Fiji Women’s Rights Movement‘s 16 Days campaign.
The Fiji Women’s Rights Movement is a multiethnic and multicultural non-governmental organisation committed to removing discrimination against women through institutional reforms and attitudinal changes. By means of core programmes, as well as innovative approaches, the FWRM practice promotes democracy, good governance, feminism and human rights. It strives to empower, unite and provide leadership opportunities for women in Fiji, especially for emerging young leaders.
IWDA has been in partnership with FWRM since 1987. Currently IWDA is partnering with FWRM and femLINKPACIFIC in the ‘Guiding Fiji towards women’s effective participation throughout peace processes’ project. The overarching goal of this project is a locally driven, locally owned and inclusive process wherein women can assert their right to participate in the decisions being taken about their future and which will result in the signing and implementation of a gender-sensitive and inclusive political process once democratic elections are announced.
This year for the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence, FWRM produced two short videos on what security means to average women and girls. Watch the videos, or read the transcripts below:
Virisila Buadromo, Executive Director, FWRM, introducing FWRM’s 16 Days Campaign:
FWRM: what does security mean to you?
FWRM: what does e-security mean to you?

Virisila Buadromo, Executive Director, FWRM, introducing FWRM’s 16 Days Campaign: Hear from girls and women in Fiji talk about security and commemorate 16 Days of Activism. This is in line with this year’s theme of militarization and violence against women.
Transcripts of the other two videos coming soon
