IWDA would like to welcome Carole Shaw, the new Senior Overseas Program Manager.

Carole brings with her substantial gender expertise and experience in the areas of post-conflict development, women & peacebuilding, implementation of Security Council Resolution 1325, capacity building, ethical practice in research, training and gender mainstreaming. Throughout her work she demonstrates a strong commitment to feminist and community based ways of working that promote diversity and equality in all areas of life. Carole has been based in the UK, Austria, the Netherlands and Australia where she has worked with women’s groups from throughout the world with a strong focus on Asia and the Pacific.

Carole joins us from New York where she was the United Nations Liaison Officer for Women’s International League for Peace & Freedom (WILPF) UN Office. Prior to this, Carole lectured on the Masters for Social Development Program at the University of New South Wales in Sydney and has lectured on a casual basis for the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Sydney and guest lectured at University of New York.

Carole has also worked closely at the policy level with the Department of Education and Training, New South Wales to input into policy and develop strategies to support refugee students in schools, and received an award from the NSW State Government for this work. She has worked as a Research Associate with the Centre for Refugee Research at the University of New South Wales; is a board member of the Australian National Committee on Refugee Women (ANCORW); served on the management team of the African Women’s Advocacy Unit; was the NSW representative for the International Women’s Development Agency and works on several regional committees to advance the status of women across the region.
