IWDA recently held a fundraiser film screening of the Australian film Unfinished Sky, with the aim of using the proceeds to assit in the establishment of new organisation Solomon Mere Kamap (SMK), a group which has evolved from women engaged by IWDA in a project in the Solomon Islands. The women who have grown this organisation were committed to continue working with rural women’s groups in the Solomons, and have been working towards setting up their own women’s Non Government Organisation.
The funds raised through this event meant that as of this week, the organisation is officially registered in the Solomons, has developed a constitution, had an interim board appointed and developed the beginning of a strategic plan, all of which has come about following a three day workshop which was funded by the film night!
The meeting was supported by the womens network in Honiara and attended by women travelling in from the islands.
Thank you for everyone who participated in this important fundraiser, you have all shown that a little bit of money at the right time can go along way! We at IWDA wish SMK well in their future work.
