Freedom from Family and Sexual Violence
Partners: Eastern Highlands Family Voice (EHFV)
Country: goroka, Eastern Highlands, PNG
Eastern Highlands Family Voice’s programs consist of advocacy, public education, counselling and training with a specific focus on child rights. EHFV has been working in the Highlands to address these challenges by providing counselling to women and children. Currently there are now more than 1000 trained volunteers across the province whose roles are to raise awareness, peace mediation and conflict resolution to build family and community based responses to violence against women. EHFV is interested in strengthening the work of their volunteers by developing a monitoring system and follow-up which will reinvigorate their work. At the same time, funding from IWDA will also provide legal literacy human rights training and raise awareness of PNG domestic violence and violence against women laws.
Project Objectives
- To develop a monitoring and support system for community based volunteers active in supporting victims of family and sexual violence.
- To raise awareness and advocate to prevent violence and abuse against women and children through education and training on human rights with priority being given to raise awareness on the Convention on the Rights of the Child, UN Convention on the Elimination of All forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and how women can access and use the PNG legal system.
This project is funded by IWDA supporters and through the ANCP matched giving program.
