Report to Community Sector from Caroline Lambert, YWCA

Caroline Lambert, Executive Director of the YWCA, attended the 2009 meeting of the UN Commission on the Status of Women as a representative of the community sector on the Australian Government Delegation.

CSW is the highest policy making body on women at the UN and has two broad responsibilities:

  1. To review internationally agreed standards for the achievement of women’s equality
  2. To develop new standards for the promotion of women’s equality

Caroline reports on the discussions and the outcomes achieved at CSW in 2009 - a year in which, in her words, Australia’s delegation ‘demonstrated to the world that Australia is back in the business of women’s human rights.’
