Report to Community Sector from Caroline Lambert, YWCA
Caroline Lambert, Executive Director of the YWCA, attended the 2009 meeting of the UN Commission on the Status of Women as a representative of the community sector on the Australian Government Delegation.
CSW is the highest policy making body on women at the UN and has two broad responsibilities:
- To review internationally agreed standards for the achievement of women’s equality
- To develop new standards for the promotion of women’s equality
Caroline reports on the discussions and the outcomes achieved at CSW in 2009 - a year in which, in her words, Australia’s delegation ‘demonstrated to the world that Australia is back in the business of women’s human rights.’
