Becoming an IWDA Volunteer

By becoming an IWDA Volunteer you will have an opportunity to contribute to the important work of IWDA, creating positive change for women and their communities. Volunteering and in-kind contributions are as valuable to IWDA as cash donations.

IWDA’s volunteer program expresses the agency’s commitment to non-exploitation of paid and unpaid workers by challenging the traditional privileging of paid work and making visible and valuable women’s labour, we recognise this by:

  • Providing support in the form of clear policy guidelines and position descriptions
  • Recognising that the relationship between volunteers and IWDA is reciprocal
  • Ensuring that volunteers extend rather than replace paid staff positions
  • Carefully recording the hours of work contributed by volunteers and
  • Acknowledging the work of IWDA volunteers in our Annual Report.

Volunteering Activities:

If you are in the Melbourne area, there are a range of short-term or ongoing activities that volunteers can do at the IWDA office, including:

  • Administration
  • Event Management
  • Fundraising
  • Communications/PR
  • Program support
  • Policy/Research

Most of our volunteer positions are based at our office, if you live outside Melbourne, or are unable to come into the office, there are many opportunities for you to support and promote IWDA in your local communities.

Applying to Volunteer:

To volunteer at IWDA  you will need to meet the following criteria:

  • You should currently reside in Australia
  • You should be eligible to work in Australia.
  • You must be 18 years or older

* To register offline please call IWDA on 03 9650 5574 and request a volunteer registration form to be sent out to your postal address.

Internships:

We have limited capacity to accept interns. We accept applications from all tertiary students interested in undertaking an internship with us, but we do not accept a set intake each year. All internship positions are arranged and appointed on an as-needs basis. Specific internship positions are occasionally advertised on the website.

Recruitment for volunteer and intern positions will be undertaken via our website: please regularly check the Recent News section of the website for upcoming volunteer opportunities.
