The project was designed by representatives from 3 Cambodian NGOs (Banteay Srei, ADHOC, Gender and Development in Cambodia (GAD/C) and IWDA, in 2006. Over 160 women and men were interviewed in Battambang and Siem Reap provinces through the design process. Meetings were also held with representatives from the government, donors, UN agencies, international NGOs and Cambodian NGOs.
This project addresses different forms of violence as they occur in the target areas. These include domestic violence (physical, psychological and economic), rape and sexual assault (including gang rape). The project is being implemented in 40 Villages in two provinces, Battambang and Siem Reap. 29 of these villages already had a village support network mechanism established by Banteay Srei. An additional 11 new villages were selected and now receive the full package of support from Banteay Srei and ADHOC.
