Towards Environmentally Sustainable, Equitable & Empowered Communities

This project aims to promote positive gender relations in target communities in the Maldives through empowering women and enhancing gender awareness. The project provides women with environmentally sustainable income generation opportunities and their communities with training in gender and human rights. Local partner LLEE Maldives will support members of the Women’s Development Committee in the target community to grow chillis and establish a processing facility to produce a high quality chilli sauce that will be sold locally and within the domestic tourism industry.

Project Objectives

- Provide sustainable enterprise opportunity to women farmers in target community in Maldives;

- Increase women’s participation in decision-making and leadership & increase awareness and understanding of gender and environment issues in target community

This project is funded by IWDA supporters and through the 2007 Race up the Rialto by Trisha Broadbridge.
