International Women's Development Agency Support our Tax Appeal

Women’s sustainable livelihoods & natural resource management

Our program partnerships are increasing women’s access to and control of natural resources to ensure improved, sustainable livelihoods for themselves, their families, communities and future generations.

We support partnerships that promote increased recognition and influence of women’s knowledge and roles in protecting, sustaining and managing biodiversity and natural resources. Our programs are strengthening the participation of individual women, women’s organisations or women’s networks in planning and decision-making about the use and management of natural resources, including commercial enterprises such as mining or logging. We place an emphasis on sustainable agriculture and food production on which rural women’s livelihoods depend. This extends to planning and allocating resources for disaster preparedness or adaptation to climate change.

IWDA works in community-based partnerships as well as supporting leadership, advocacy and networking initiatives at the national, regional or international level. The program is strengthened through research and analysis that recognises the gender dimensions of human interaction with the environment and women’s and men’s shared and different roles and responsibilities. Gender-sensitive policy development and implementation is essential for effective management of land, water, sanitation and energy resources, development activities or disaster reduction and mitigation. Our support to formal and informal education and training is an important part of enhancing equity in sustainable resource management.

Our commitment to environmental sustainability is also reflected in IWDA policy and compliance with AusAID environmental guidelines, and our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint associated with operations, travel, technology and events.
